Three years. Same flashlight. Hundreds of night shifts.

I’ve been doing mobile patrol since 2015 — mostly nights, mostly alone, mostly parking lots and properties where the lighting is terrible and you really don’t want your light dying on you. I’ve gone through my share of flashlights over the years. The Imalent SR16 is the one that stuck. I’ve carried the same one since early 2023 and it has been flawless.

Here’s the thing most flashlight reviews get wrong: they treat turbo like a party trick. For me it’s a working tool. The 11,000-lumen mode is my workhorse — door handles, fence lines, plates — but I’m double-clicking into 55,000 all night whenever I need more detail or more distance. I patrol 30-plus sites and turbo gets used at every single one of them. That’s real patrol work, and it’s where most “impressive” flashlights fall apart, because they can’t sustain their output. They blast for a minute and then step down to something dim.

The SR16 holds 11,000 lumens without dimming. That’s the spec that actually matters for my job. Eleven thousand lumens, sustained, for as long as I need it — with a turbo that’s genuinely there every time I reach for it, dozens of times a night.

Three-plus years in, it’s still working perfect. Same body, same switch, same battery performance. It’s been rained on, dropped on asphalt, bounced around my passenger seat for thousands of miles. It just works.

People ask me about the SR32 — Imalent’s even bigger one, the whole “world’s brightest flashlight” thing. I’ve thought about it. Honestly? It’d be a collection piece. It’s heavier, and for actual patrol work the SR16 is already more light than I’ll ever need. I can’t justify carrying the extra weight for bragging rights. The SR16 is perfect in every way for what I actually do.

I’m the type who usually can’t leave gear alone — always researching the new thing, always upgrading. Flashlights would be a dangerous rabbit hole for me. But three years in, I have zero desire to replace this light. That probably tells you more than the spec sheet does.

The world’s brightest right now: Imalent MS32

Full disclosure: I don’t own this one. But it’d feel wrong not to mention it, because right now it’s the world’s brightest flashlight — 200,000 lumens out of 32 LEDs, throwing over 1,600 meters. That’s more than a mile.

It’s also nearly 7 pounds. So yeah, this thing is never coming on patrol with me. My SR16 already does everything I need at a fraction of the weight. The MS32 is pure overkill — a shelf piece for people who just want to own the king.

But if ‘brightest money can buy’ is your thing? This is it.
